1001 WAYS TO REWARD EMPLOYEES by
Bob Nelson
Mary Kay, founder of Mary Kay Cosmetics and one of America's leading businesswomen,
once said that if there were two things people want more than sex and money it is
respect and recognition.
1001 Ways to Reward Employees is a great compendium of ideas of how to show
recognition and respect to your team members and has been authored by Bob Nelson,
a colleague of One Minute guru, Ken Blanchard. Full of innovative ways in which you
can reward your staff with inexpensive suggestions that will reinforce positive behavior
Ideal for managers at all levels if they want to show appreciation,
lift morale and increase productivity of your team.
When some managers introduce incentives and rewards they sometimes miss the point.
Bob reminds us that the reward must be matched to the person (in other words choose
a way which the individual will find personally rewarding), match the reward to the
achievement (in the context that somebody completing 5 years of service should be
recognized in a more substantial way to a reward for one years service) and the finally
be timely and specific (rewards should be give an as soon after the desired behavior)
No manager should be without this great ideas and suggestions book if you want an
above average performing team.

YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE BORN BRILLIANT by John McGrath.
This was one of the first books I read on success and now after reading dozens more,
I still think this is one of the best! John McGrath is an inspiring man who founded
one of Australia's leading real estate agencies. This book gives us an insight into
what it takes to be successful—the thoughts, attitude and habits we need to cultivate
to achieve our dreams. McGrath uses as examples some strategies that he has personally
followed, which is what I think gives this book that extra "edge". Not
only does it give you the theory of success, but how it's possible to implement that
theory into daily life. One word of warning though—McGrath is an extraordinarily
disciplined man. Some may not appreciate following such a path to success. Personally,
I love this book, and have implemented many of its suggestions, with fantastic results.
Highly, highly recommend it!

GOING TO THE TOP by Carol Gallagher & Susan
Golant
Going to the Top is a book that every business woman, and business man,
should have in their success library. In it, the authors explore and answer a lot
of the questions many women face on their way up the corporate ladder. The authors
have interviewed over 200 executive women in the US and their male bosses, and have
identified what strategies and skills are needed to make it to the top. This book
is very practical with some interesting anecdotes. Crucially, the authors dispel
a lot of myths as to what it takes to succeed. What delighted me the most about this
book was that it pointed out the skills and strategies that can be adopted to succeed
in business, without sacrificing a sense of self. Another important point this book
covers is how successful women have juggled the career-family balance. If you're
looking for some answers on success in business, or are just after an interesting
read, get this book. I strongly recomend it.
