 Tim Hawkes

Dr Tim Hawkes is head of the King's School Parramatta, NSW—one of Australia's most well-known and respected schools. He is a leading authority on educating boys and his contribution to debate in this area has made him popular as a speaker and writer on gender issues in education. Tim Hawkes attended Durham University, graduating with a B Ed (Hon), and Macquarie University where he obtained his PhD. In 1989 Hawkes accepted the position of Headmaster of St Leonard's College, Melbourne. During this time he served on the board of the International Baccalaureate Organisation and was Founding Chairman of the Association of Heads of Independent Co-educational Schools of Victoria. In 1998 he moved to Sydney to accept a position as Headmaster of The King's School. Dr. Hawkes has regularly contributed to debates on education and has attended a number of education conferences. His focus is the education of boys, and more recently the teaching of leadership to students. His works are largely confined to primary and secondary level education. His published works include Duty of Care, Boy Oh Boy, and a four book series 'Learning Leadership'. During the 2004 Australian Federal Election, Hawkes became an active participant in the national discussion on education as The King's School became frequently cited by the Australian Labor Party in the public vs private education debate
